School Psychologist
Salary: $108,000 - $125,000 | CalSTRS Retirement Eligible | Exempt
Location: Richmond, CA (Making Waves Academy Campus)
When you join the team, you’ll make connections matter.
At Making Waves Academy, we don’t just teach; we empower. As a School Psychologist on our campus, you are the lead architect of student potential. You’ll join a high-performing Multidisciplinary Team to bridge the gap between emotional well-being and academic achievement for students in grades 5–12. From navigating the complexities of puberty to designing post-secondary roadmaps, you’ll be the steady hand that ensures our students are seen, heard, and supported.
What you’ll be doing:
You’ll be at the heart of our mission, using data and empathy to drive student success. Your role is a blend of clinical expertise, crisis leadership, and collaborative advocacy.
- Driving Equity through Assessment: Conducting comprehensive psycho-educational evaluations that respect cultural nuances. You’ll use alternative, non-biased methods (Larry P. compliance) to ensure every student is evaluated fairly.
- Decoding Behavior: Performing FBAs and leading the creation of BIPs that provide teachers with real-world, actionable strategies.
- Supporting Mental Health: Delivering Educationally Related Mental Health Services (ERMHS), providing targeted counseling for trauma, anxiety, and depression.
- Leading in Crisis: Serving as a key member of our Crisis Response Team, conducting suicide risk and threat assessments with professional calm and clinical precision.
- Planning for the Future: Collaborating on high-stakes Transition Plans (Indicator 13) to ensure our high schoolers are ready for college, vocational pathways, and beyond.
- Systems Innovation: Leading Tier 2 and Tier 3 MTSS teams to integrate social-emotional learning (SEL) into the fabric of our school culture.
What we’re looking for...
- Master’s or Specialist Degree (Ed.S.) in School Psychology.
- A valid California Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) Credential.
- Deep knowledge of CA Education Code, IDEA, and Section 504.
Even better if you have:
- A passionate commitment to supporting first-generation students and families from underserved communities.
- Proficiency in SEIS, SIRAS, or PowerSchool.
- Expertise in distinguishing between Emotional Disturbance and Social Maladjustment per CA standards.
- The ability to translate complex clinical data into "people-first" language for parents and staff.
Why work here?
This is more than a clinical role; it’s a seat at the table. At MWA, you are a vital team member whose expertise shapes the culture of our campus. We offer a competitive salary, CalSTRS retirement eligibility, and a community that celebrates your impact. You’ll be encouraged to stay connected by participating in the life of the school—from performances to athletic competitions—because we know we’re at our best when we move as one team.
