Who we are
At Making Waves Academy (MWA), we don’t just teach—we empower. We are a community of educators dedicated to closing the achievement gap and ensuring that every student, regardless of background, has the tools to reach their full potential. We believe in the power of data, the strength of collaboration, and the impact of a rigorous, supportive learning environment.

What you’ll be doing…
As a Middle School Math Teacher at MWA, you are the architect of student success. You won’t just be delivering lessons; you’ll be designing culturally relevant, standards-based experiences that make complex mathematical concepts accessible and exciting. You will play a dual role as both an instructional expert and a dedicated mentor, guiding a cohort of students through their academic and social-emotional journey.

Your impact will include:

  • Driving Growth: Delivering high-quality instruction to 4-5 classes, ensuring significant, measurable growth in mathematical proficiency for every student.
  • Mentorship: Leading an Advisory/Homeroom group, providing 1-on-1 check-ins, social-emotional learning, and post-secondary planning support.
  • Data-Driven Innovation: Utilizing school-wide benchmarks and classroom data to pivot and adjust your instructional strategy in real-time.
  • Culture Building: Actively participating in school-wide norms—from morning huddle to supervision—to maintain a safe, rigorous, and inclusive campus culture.
  • Collaboration: Working alongside grade-level and content teams to align syllabi, unit plans, and "Weeks at a Glance" (WAAGS) with Common Core and California State standards.

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • A valid state Single / Multiple Subject Teaching Credential (or eligibility/enrollment in a CTC-approved program)
  • Strong content area knowledge
  • Commitment to closing achievement gaps and raising expectations for all students
  • Eligibility for employment clearance (AED, CPR & First Aid, Certificate of Clearance, Live Scan, TB screen), and other employment clearance

Even better if you have:

  • Ability to build strong, positive, and trusting relationships, and to work effectively and collaboratively as a member of a team to achieve common instructional goals.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining a highly structured, positive, and productive learning environment through consistent routines, clear expectations, and effective behavior management.
  • Ability to critically reflect on one's own teaching practice, accept and implement feedback from instructional leaders, and actively seek continuous professional growth.
