Status: Part-Time/Full-time, Non-Exempt (Year-Round)
Hourly Range: $21.00 - $27.00 plus $12,000 Temporary Cost of Living Allowance and MWA Benefits 

Position Summary
The Campus Supervisor, under the direction of the Campus Operations and Safety Manager,  supports daily campus operations, primarily in the areas of student and campus safety. The Campus Supervisor maintains a visible and consistent presence on campus and in their assigned areas of focus, implements key safety and emergency procedures, and responds to calls of support. In addition, the Campus Supervisor implements facilities and event support, and plans and inspects the campus. The Campus Supervisor intervenes and reports actions that appear out of the ordinary, unsafe, dangerous, and/or illegal. Each Campus Supervisor focuses primarily on campus safety (particularly in their designated area of focus) while sharing traffic responsibilities and providing supplemental support to the other areas.

This role is 40 hours a week, including evening and weekend hours and occasional overtime. The work schedule varies because of the overtime and rotating on-call duty. Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this job. 

The Operations team is a cornerstone of MWA’s model, creating and supporting safe spaces, free of physical harm and threats, bullying, or other forms of unsafe behaviors or actions. The Campus Supervisor presence creates a sense of order and care. Campus Supervisors are expected to build positive and appropriate relationships with students so that they are comfortable seeking support when needed, sharing vital information related to potential threats to the campus or to individual students, and being able to refer students to the appropriate staff member on campus who can address their needs. 


Essential Functions

General Campus Supervision

  • Implement student supervision schedules and assignments, as well as coordinate and provide event support and student transportation while proactively recommending areas of improvement.
  • Supervise or provide coverage for various area zones to provide general safety, presence, and vigilance to key areas of campus.
  • Patrol in and around the campus during school hours, providing general supervision of students outside of class and remaining alert to problems likely to disrupt the educational process or be physically injurious to persons or property. 

Behavior Management 

  • Assist employees with preventive discipline by explaining school rules to students and parents. 
  • Establish rapport with faculty and students in order to gain their trust and confidence; inform students of acceptable school behavior.
  • Assist with student searches and seizures.
  • Intervene in situations likely to disrupt student learning, cause injury, and direct students to refrain from such conduct.
  • Report incidents of unacceptable or unsafe student conduct to an appropriate Dean immediately using designated communication systems.
  • Work collaboratively with Deans of Students, Social Workers, School Leaders, and others to maintain clear, timely communication and information sharing, provide consistency in response to incidents, and support efforts to effectively address unsafe and unacceptable student behaviors.

General Safety, Training, and Support 

  • Discourage the presence of unauthorized persons on the campus and the unauthorized departure of students during school hours. Defuse volatile situations and refer toward divisional leadership and/or law enforcement as directed.
  • Provide escorts to staff, students, and family members upon request to ensure their safe arrival at/departure from various on-campus locations.
  • Provide event set-up, support, and breakdown.
  • Report safety concerns related to the Campus Operations and Safety Manager for quick resolution. 
  • Complete Incident Reports to record observations and actions. Complete necessary written reports accurately and serve as a witness in student conferences, disciplinary hearings/proceedings, and legal hearings/proceedings; prepare written statements within 24 hours of an incident.
  • Provide daily summary reports to the Campus Operations and Safety Manager of safety incidents/concerns, facilities concerns, and/or observations that require monitoring
  • Implement traffic plans, including directing arrival and dismissal traffic and monitoring of parked vehicles while proactively recommending areas of improvement.
  • Implement safety plans, including emergency procedures, while proactively recommending areas of improvement.
  • Execute and adhere to routine school opening and closing procedures and protocols.

Mission Alignment

  • Participate in the school community – attend school competitions, performances, assemblies, and extracurricular activities.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and support of Making Waves Academy’s mission, core values, standards, competencies, and code of conduct outlined in the Employee Handbook.

Work Environment

  • This job operates in an indoor and outdoor environment. Seasonal heat and cold or adverse weather conditions.
  • This role routinely uses standard safety and communication equipment such as radios and cell phones.

Physical Demands

  • Physical agility and stamina. Standing or walking for extended periods of time (up to two hours). The employee may need to regularly walk upstairs or downstairs to the middle and upper school campus on foot or using a golf cart. Walking and running (as in chase, for periods of up to one minute if needed).
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate school safety and security equipment.
  • Hearing and speaking to exchange information. Seeing to monitor the movements of students, employees, and visitors, to read and to prepare reports.
  • Bending at the waist and kneeling. Reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally. Lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling objects and persons typically weighing up to fifty (50) lbs.


Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and 3 - 5 years of professional work experience in a safety or security role.

Skills and Abilities

  • Professional orientation – appearance, communication, organization, and attitude.
  • Perform duties with patience, tact, and good judgment and within established guidelines.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently. Ability to work effectively in fast-paced environments with limited supervision.
  • Ability to communicate amicably and professionally with a wide range of people, cultivate positive interactions and working relationships with colleagues, students, and families, and act authoritatively appropriately.
  • Comfortable learning and using the digital tools MWA uses, and willing to try out new technologies and work tools. 
  • Will learn, interpret, apply, and explain laws, rules, and regulations. Ability to uphold and reinforce school policies and procedures when addressing students and families. 

Licenses or Certificates 

  • Employment eligibility will include fingerprints/Live Scan, tuberculosis (TB) screening, and other employment clearance.
  • Valid CA driver’s license.
  • CPR certification and SB 1626 certificate or eligible to obtain both.
