Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP)
Salary: $52,500 - $59,000 | CalSTRS Retirement Eligible | Part-Time (20 hours)
Richmond, CA (Making Waves Academy Campus)
When you join the team, you’ll make connections matter.
At Making Waves Academy, we believe communication is the foundation of equity. As a part-time Speech-Language Pathologist on our campus, you aren’t just treating disorders—you are empowering first-generation students to find their voice, master academic language, and lead their own futures. You will join a high-impact multidisciplinary team dedicated to closing the opportunity gap for students in grades 5–12.
What you’ll be doing:
You will own the speech and language services for our diverse middle and high school student body, serving as a lead clinician, advocate, and case manager.
- Diagnostic Excellence: Conducting comprehensive evaluations (CELF-5, CASL-2) to determine SLI eligibility, with a specialized focus on distinguishing disability from cultural/linguistic differences in our English Learner (EL) populations.
- Secondary-Level Therapy: Designing interventions that help adolescents navigate complex peer dynamics, "hidden" social rules, and the linguistic demands of a college-prep curriculum.
- Functional Advocacy: Evaluating and implementing AAC devices to ensure every student—regardless of verbal ability—has a functional voice on campus.
- Future-Ready Planning: Directly contributing to Individual Transition Plans (ITPs) for students 15+, aligning communication goals with their dreams for college or the workforce.
- Consultative Impact: Partnering with teachers on Universal Design for Learning (UDL) to make every classroom more accessible.
What we’re looking for...
You’ll need to have:
- Master’s Degree.
- Valid California Speech-Language Pathology Services Credential (or PPS).
- Valid License from the CA SLP & Audiology & Hearing Aid Dispensers Board.
- Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC).
Even better if you have:
- A deep passion for supporting first-generation, college-bound students from underserved communities.
- Experience with Secondary Transition Planning (Indicator 13).
- Proficiency in SEIS, SIRAS, or PowerSchool.
- The ability to build authentic rapport with "hard-to-reach" teenagers and coach them in self-advocacy.
Pathways to Success (We will consider):
- Waiver Candidates: Exceptional candidates currently enrolled in a Master’s program who are eligible for a Variable Term Waiver.
Why work here?
This is more than a clinical role; it’s a seat at the table. At MWA, you are a vital team member whose expertise shapes the culture of our campus.
- Lead the Market: Competitive salary ranges that reflect your specialized skill set.
- Secure Your Future: Full CalSTRS pension eligibility.
- Be Part of the Wave: A vibrant community where you’ll attend school competitions, performances, and assemblies—celebrating the students you support.
Making Waves Academy is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all teammates.
